HIS Majesty the 4th king
Fourth King of Bhutan – His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck – Fourth King of Bhutan His Majesty King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, was born on November 11, 1955, at Dechencholing Palace in Thimphu, Bhutan to His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and Ashi Kezang Choden Wangchuck.
His Majesty had received a modern education when he was a child, studying in India and the United Kingdom. He grew up close to his father, accompanying him to tour to remote parts of Bhutan, and gaining first-hand knowledge of Bhutan. In 1972, after the untimely demise of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the 16 year old Crown Prince Jigme Singye Wangchuck became the youngest monarch in the world.
His Majesty Jigme Singye Wanchuck is also the creator of internationally known philosophy “Gross National Happiness”. Today, GNH is a Bhutan’s guiding development policy.
In 2006, His Majesty the Great Fourth abdicated the throne in favor of the Crown Prince, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Today, His Majesty the Great Fourth is much revered holy figure in Bhutan and beyond for reigning the country for 35 years in Dharmic ways
